#14. Learning from 30+ industry leaders.

How are you approaching the new financial year: head start or heading away?

Whatever your choice, I’ve designed this newsletter as a valuable resource you can come back to again and again over the next few weeks.

That’s right. Whether you’re reviewing your FY24 plans or buckling up for a long drive ahead, I’ve curated the social media ideas, strategies and stories from 30 of our best leaders and communications advisers to keep you company.

Not only will this newsletter meet that need – you also have the opportunity to get answers to the social media questions keeping YOU up at night. More on that below (so stick around to the end!).

I’ve had the absolute privilege of speaking with 30 guests on the Your Digital Reputation podcast already, and I continue to be blown away by the quality of their experiences, ideas and advice.

30 industry leaders with experiences spanning four continents.

30 powerful insights covering the public, private and NGO sectors.

30 unique stories from start ups, to government departments to large listed entities.

Each story answers at least one key question for leaders about how you can use LinkedIn, or what role social media plays in strategic communications today.

I’m confident one of the following questions will resonate with you (or a colleague – feel free to share). Click below to listen to the episode, or simply browse all episodes via your favourite player.

The most common questions I get from leaders (+ stories that will help).

1. Is social media a wise choice for leaders? If you think avoiding social media is your best option, hear what Matthew Gibbs (ex-ASX) and Vanessa Puli (ex-RBA) have to say on the topic, and the value of a strategic approach.

2. How can I get started on social media? Tune into Shirley Chowdhary (Chair, NED) or Amanda Dennett’s (Synergy Group) story for either a personal or organisational perspective on taking purposeful steps.

3. How does social help with staff engagement and talent attraction? I love how Deb Jenkins (Federal Gov), Mike Kaiser (Qld Gov), and Doug Taylor (The Smith Family) explain the huge benefits for leaders here.

4. Do I need to have a presence as well as my brand? Danielle Bond (ex-Aurecon) and Matt Jones (Four Pillars Gin) provide a unique insight on this issues from two very different industries.

5. Do my executive colleagues need to be active as well? If you are – or have – the one ‘digital hero’, you would greatly benefit from hearing Telstra’s story via Kim Krogh Andersen, or Craig Mullaney’s (Brunswick) for a global perspective.

6. How should public sector leaders use social media? Deb and Mike are living, breathing case studies (see #3 above), but Martin Stewart-Weeks (Public Purpose) and Amanda Bernardo (Government of Canada) share some wonderful use cases too.

7. What topics or issues are safe to talk about online? At a time where customers, staff, investors and regulators are all looking at leaders online, it would be prudent to hear what Zora Artis (Artis Advisory), Ness Liell (Orizontas) and Phil Szomszor (Brightside Digital Engagement) have to say on avoiding risk and building trust online.

What about you – what questions do YOU want answered?

I’m in the middle of planning Season 4 of the podcast (launching in August). We have some great leaders already lined up, but I’d love to hear from you:

  1. What social media question would you like us to answer on the show?
  2. Which guest would you most like to hear from on the show?

You can help shape our next season (and get YOUR questions answered!) by providing your perspective via this quick two minute survey – just click the button below. Even if you’re yet to tune in, I’d still love to hear from you.
